Tom Jones is a Welsh singer whose powerful voice and commanding stage presence have made him one of the most enduring performers in popular music. Born Thomas Jones Woodward in Pontypridd, South Wales, in 1940, he sang in local clubs before signing with Decca Records and achieving his breakthrough in the mid-1960s. It’s Not Unusual became his first major international hit, launching a recording career that would move comfortably between pop, rock, soul, R&B, country, and blues.

Jones followed his breakthrough with a remarkable collection of recognizable songs, including What’s New Pussycat?, Delilah, Green, Green Grass of Home, and I’ll Never Fall in Love Again. His early success earned him the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1966. Rather than remaining tied to the music of the 1960s, Jones repeatedly found new audiences, including through his hit interpretation of Prince’s Kiss with Art of Noise and the hugely successful Reload album in 1999, which included Sex Bomb.

Live performance has remained at the center of Jones’ career for more than six decades. From his famous Las Vegas engagements to theaters, arenas, and festivals around the world, his distinctive voice and charismatic delivery became the foundation of an unusually long touring career. Jones was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 for services to music and has continued recording and performing well into his eighties. In 2026, at age 86, he remains an active touring artist, performing across Europe and North America with his band.
