The Used

The Used is an American rock band formed in Orem, Utah, around 2000. Fronted by vocalist Bert McCracken, the lineup that established the band featured guitarist Quinn Allman, bassist Jeph Howard, and drummer Branden Steineckert. Combining post-hardcore aggression with emo, punk, alternative rock, and melodic songwriting, The Used developed a sound built around the contrast between McCracken’s emotional singing and screaming vocals and the band’s heavy guitars. After signing with Reprise Records, they released their self-titled debut album in 2002 and quickly became one of the recognizable bands of the early-2000s alternative scene.

The Used became a major breakthrough, featuring songs such as The Taste of Ink, Buried Myself Alive, and Blue and Yellow. The band followed it with In Love and Death in 2004, which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and included Take It Away, I Caught Fire, and All That I’ve Got. Both albums were certified platinum in the United States. Lies for the Liars followed in 2007, beginning another chapter as lineup changes gradually reshaped the group. The Used continued experimenting with its sound on later albums including Artwork, Vulnerable, The Canyon, Heartwork, and Toxic Positivity.

Touring has been a major part of The Used’s career from the beginning. Early club shows gave way to extensive touring, including appearances on the Warped Tour, Ozzfest, and Projekt Revolution, as well as years of headline shows and international performances. Bert McCracken and Jeph Howard have remained the longest-running members as the lineup evolved, while the band has continued recording and performing more than two decades after its breakthrough. In recent years, The Used has also celebrated the music that established its reputation with anniversary performances centered around its early albums.

Authentic The Used guitar picks and memorabilia offer collectors a connection to more than two decades of post-hardcore and alternative rock history. Pieces associated with different tours, albums, lineups, and performances capture the band’s evolution from its Utah beginnings through the breakthrough years of The Used and In Love and Death and its continuing career.
