Stray Cats is an American rock and roll / rockabilly band, founded in 1979 by Brian Setzer (guitar, vocals), Lee Rocker (stand-up bass) and Slim Jim Phantom (drums). They got their start playing in clubs in Hollywood and were soon discovered by Rick Gretz of MCA (Music Corporation of America) and signed in 1980. After a few years on the West Coast, they moved to England in 1981 where there was a huge rockabilly revival happening. It wasn’t long before they started playing clubs in London and getting more and more popular, with their first hit single, “Stray Cat Strut” being released in 1981. Their subsequent hits, “Rock This Town”, “(She’s) Sexy + 17” and many others made them one of the most popular and influential rock and roll bands of the 20th century and the most successful rockabilly band of the modern era.
