Rick Springfield

Rick Springfield is an Australian-American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and actor whose career has crossed music and television for more than five decades. Born Richard Springthorpe in Sydney, Australia, in 1949, Springfield played in several Australian bands before joining the pop-rock group Zoot. After moving into a solo career, he eventually found his biggest musical breakthrough with Working Class Dog in 1981. The album featured Jessie’s Girl, the song that became his signature hit, along with his version of Sammy Hagar’s I’ve Done Everything for You.
Jessie’s Girl reached No. 1 in the United States and earned Springfield the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. He followed that success with a string of popular songs during the 1980s, including Don’t Talk to Strangers, Affair of the Heart, Love Somebody, and Human Touch. At the same time, Springfield became familiar to television audiences through his role as Dr. Noah Drake on General Hospital, giving him the unusual distinction of achieving major success as both a recording artist and actor during the same period.
Music has remained a constant throughout Springfield’s career. A guitarist as well as a vocalist, he has continued recording and performing long after his early-1980s breakthrough, playing full-band concerts, acoustic shows, and tours with other established rock artists. His live performances continue to draw heavily from the songs that made him famous while also reflecting a recording career that extends well beyond Jessie’s Girl.
