Rancid

Rancid is a punk rock band from Berkeley, California, created in 1991 by singer/guitarist Tim Armstrong and bassist Matt Freeman following the disintegration of Operation Ivy. Tim’s younger brother Alvin joined the group with Armstrong, with Lars Frederiksen added to round out the band’s early incarnation with Brett Reed. The quintet’s music brought together the toughest aspects of hardcore, street and roots rockers with infectious, upbeat reggae-tinged rhythms earning them great popularity as one of the driving forces of the 1990s’ punk revival, boasting the sales of three platinum selling albums – Let’s Go, …And Out Come the Wolves and the more experimental (yet equally lauded by fans and the media) Life Won’t Wait. Classic albums by the ‘classic’ line-up – featuring songs ‘Ruby Soho’, ‘Time Bomb’, ‘Roots Radicals’ & ‘Fall Back Down’ – went on to win them a large cult following the world over. The quartet has stuck firmly to their DIY ethos while in the same breath pushing their songs and sound further than some fans could have anticipated with every subsequent release and continue to boast an International touring schedule and worldwide sales figure into the millions of albums sold to date, as well as inspiring and affecting countless other Punk/Ska groups. The band still carry the mantle for modern punk to this day with the same powerful drive as the start and have remained influential throughout several generations of bands & fans, making them one of the leading names of contemporary punk.

Prolific songwriters for over 30 years, the members of Rancid have continued to write within the boundaries of the Punk rock genre while exploring all the nuances inherent to that genre. True to the spirit of the earliest Punk pioneers, Rancid have continued to tour in support of their most recent releases, while never resorting to the corporate methods of distribution or the sales oriented tactics of more commercial bands. In that respect, Rancid continue to be leaders of the independent spirit that fueled the Punk revolution of the late 1970s. The band has inspired many to follow in their musical footsteps, both from within the Punk genre and outside of it in the Ska and alternative genres, and continue to be considered among the best of modern Punk rock today.

As well as influencing many of today’s bands Rancid have continued to tour and perform live all over the world from small club and DIY shows to large festivals and headline tours across the globe. Their high-energy and often chaotic live performances have helped to create a loyal fan base, made up of fans of all ages, from all over the world. Guitar picks, backstage passes, tour laminates, promotional items, concert postcards, tour merchandise and much more have been left behind at Rancid shows by the band and crew. These items have become very collectible over the years and are highly sought after by fans and collectors.
