Racer X is an American heavy metal band founded in Los Angeles, California, by the guitarist Paul Gilbert in 1985. The band’s highly technical playing style and extremely fast playing makes them one of the most favored bands by fans of the shred guitar and neoclassical-influenced heavy metal. The original lineup consisted of the vocalist Jeff Martin, the bassist John Alderete and the drummer Harry Gschoesser. The band later featured the drummer Scott Travis (Judias Priest), on several of their recordings. The band’s albums, such as *Street Lethal*, *Second Heat* and *Technical Difficulties*, have cemented the band’s position as one of the greatest guitar-driven metal bands of all time.

Even though Racer X never quite reached the pinnacles of commercial success, their influence upon the heavy metal guitar genre cannot be overstated.
