P.O.D. is an American rock band formed in San Diego, California, in 1992. Short for Payable on Death, the group developed a distinctive sound by mixing heavy rock and metal with hip-hop, reggae, punk, and other influences. Fronted by vocalist Sonny Sandoval, P.O.D. built its following through independent releases and years of live performances before reaching a much larger audience with The Fundamental Elements of Southtown in 1999. Songs such as Southtown and Rock the Party (Off the Hook) helped introduce the band’s energetic style to mainstream rock audiences.

The band’s biggest commercial breakthrough came with Satellite in 2001. Released only days after the September 11 attacks, the album went on to become P.O.D.’s most successful release and produced some of their best-known songs, including Alive, Youth of the Nation, Boom, and the title track. P.O.D.’s combination of heavy guitars, rhythmic vocals, uplifting themes, and spiritual influences helped the band stand apart during the early-2000s alternative metal and nu-metal era.

Touring has remained central to P.O.D.’s career for more than three decades. The band has performed around the world, appearing at major festivals and sharing stages with artists including Korn, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Evanescence, and Seether. While the lineup has changed at different points in its history, Sonny Sandoval, guitarist Marcos Curiel, bassist Traa Daniels, and drummer Wuv Bernardo have been the musicians most closely associated with the band. P.O.D. has continued recording and performing well beyond its early-2000s breakthrough, including the release of Veritas in 2024.
