Less Than Jake is an American ska-punk band formed in Gainesville, Florida, in 1992. Founded by vocalist and guitarist Chris DeMakes, drummer Vinnie Fiorello, and an early bassist, the group soon took shape around DeMakes and bassist/vocalist Roger Lima, eventually adding horns to the mix. Their combination of fast punk rock, ska rhythms, melodic hooks, and a sense of humor gave Less Than Jake a sound that stood out during the ska-punk explosion of the 1990s. After building an underground following with early releases, the band released Pezcore before signing with Capitol Records and reaching a much wider audience.

The Capitol years produced two of the band’s best-known albums, Losing Streak in 1996 and Hello Rockview in 1998. Songs such as Johnny Quest Thinks We’re Sellouts, History of a Boring Town, and All My Best Friends Are Metalheads became longtime fan favorites. Less Than Jake continued with Borders & Boundaries in 2000 before releasing Anthem in 2003, one of the band’s most commercially successful records. Rather than remaining tied to the 1990s ska revival, the group continued recording through changing musical trends while holding on to the punk energy, horns, and melodic songwriting at the heart of its sound.

Touring has always been a major part of Less Than Jake’s identity. From small clubs and repeated appearances on the Warped Tour to international festivals and headline shows, the band has spent decades on the road building a particularly loyal live following. More than 30 years after forming, Less Than Jake continues to record and perform, with longtime members Chris DeMakes, Roger Lima, Buddy Schaub, and Peter “JR” Wasilewski joined by drummer Matt Yonker.
