KIX was an American hard rock band whose roots date back to 1977 in Hagerstown, Maryland. Originally performing as The Shooze and later The Generators, the group adopted the name KIX around 1980. Fronted by vocalist Steve Whiteman, the band developed a high-energy mix of hard rock, glam metal, and blues-influenced rock that earned them a devoted following. After releasing their self-titled debut album in 1981, KIX continued building its reputation with albums such as Cool Kids and Midnite Dynamite.

The band’s biggest commercial breakthrough came with Blow My Fuse in 1988. The album eventually earned platinum certification in the United States and featured some of KIX’s best-known songs, including Cold Blood, Blow My Fuse, and the power ballad Don’t Close Your Eyes. The latter became the band’s biggest hit on the Billboard Hot 100, bringing KIX a level of mainstream exposure that had eluded them during their earlier years.

KIX built much of its reputation on the road, becoming particularly known for energetic live shows and Steve Whiteman’s commanding stage presence. After the band’s original run ended in the 1990s, KIX reunited in the early 2000s and returned to regular touring. The reunion eventually produced Rock Your Face Off in 2014, the band’s first studio album in nearly two decades. After years of reunion shows and festival appearances, KIX played its final concert in September 2023, bringing more than four decades of the band’s history to a close.
