Kenny Wayne Shepherd is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter who emerged as one of the leading young blues-rock guitarists of the 1990s. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1977, Shepherd began playing guitar at an early age and developed a strong interest in the blues, with Stevie Ray Vaughan becoming one of his major influences. He signed a record deal while still a teenager and released his debut album, Ledbetter Heights, in 1995. The album became a major blues-rock success and introduced a much wider audience to Shepherd’s powerful, guitar-driven sound.

He followed with Trouble Is… in 1997, further establishing his reputation and producing Blue on Black, the song most closely associated with his career. Other tracks such as Slow Ride, Deja Voodoo, and True Lies also became early favorites. Over the years, Shepherd has continued to explore the connection between blues and rock while earning multiple Grammy nominations and working with musicians from different generations of both genres. Although Shepherd also sings, longtime band member Noah Hunt has handled many of the lead vocals on Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band recordings.

Touring has remained a major part of Shepherd’s career for more than three decades. The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band has performed at clubs, theaters, concert halls, festivals, and larger venues around the world, while Shepherd has shared the stage with many respected blues and rock musicians. Whether headlining his own shows or performing alongside other artists, his expressive electric guitar playing remains at the center of the experience that first brought him national attention as a teenager.
