EZO was a Japanese heavy metal band that was active from the late 1980s. The band was originally called Flatbacker in Japan but was renamed to EZO in 1986. The main members were vocalist Masaki Yamada and guitarist Shoyo Iida. After Geffen Records picked them up they became one of the first Japanese heavy metal band to receive attention from the American rock and metal scene in the late 1980s.

EZO’s first release as this new group of musicians (after the change in name from Flatbacker in 1986) was their self titled album of 1987 entitled *EZO*. This powerful album to include songs like “House of 1,000 Pleasures” and “Flashback Heart Attack” to name a couple got people to begin to realize just how powerful of a band this group of very talented musicians truly were. After being picked up by Geffen Records and releasing the second album *Fire Fire* it was evident to fans worldwide that EZO’s unique blend of melodic hard rock and heavy metal created a distinctive sound. A sound that though may not have garnered the attention of mass markets within the US was not the case however with fans within Japan and those of the rock and metal variety worldwide. As EZO gained a sizeable following as they continued touring and performing in not only Japan but throughout the US. To and from shows, as well as for promotional activities for the band an array of highly unique collectibles were generated. EZO continued to play and promote in both Japan and the United States earning them a loyal band of followers.
