Europe is a Swedish hard rock band from Upplands Väsby, formed in 1979. The band consists of Joey Tempest on vocals and John Norum on guitar among others. The band rose to fame on the Scandinavian rock scene in the late 1980s. Their biggest success came with the 1986 album The Final Countdown which included the hit singles “The Final Countdown”, “Rock the Night” and “Carrie”. The band became one of the hard rock bands of the 1980s and was as successful in Europe as they were in the US and elsewhere in the world.

They went for a mix of melodic hard rock and big arena-rock songs with top-class musicianship. On The Final Countdown they reached a worldwide audience. Although the scene started to change already in the early 1990s, Europe went on hiatus in 1992 but reunited in 2003 and continued in a harder and more modern direction than before. All the albums from after the reunion have received positive reviews from old fans as well as from critics all over the world.
