Bruce Hornsby

Musician Bruce Hornsby is a singer-songwriter, piano player, and bandleader. Known for his eclectic variety of music that rarely returns to the pop recipe he was served up while riding the crest of the millions-selling The Way It Is, Hornsby debuted with his group Bruce Hornsby and the Range in 1986. Their debut album sold millions of copies around the globe and spawned so many quality songs that everyone knew right off that this guy was some kind of singer-songwriter and pianist – The Way It Is, Mandolin Rain, Every Little Kiss, and more.
Bruce Hornsby is one of the most adventurous singer-songwriters out there today. While some artists might be content to follow up the massive success of their first hit song with more of the same, Hornsby has pursued a wide array of musical styles, including jazz, bluegrass, classical music, and more. He’s collaborated with artists like Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Branford Marsalis, Ricky Skaggs, and Justin Vernon, among others. Hornsby’s been awarded three Grammy Awards in recognition of his many musical endeavors over the years.
In addition to performing as an opening act for the Grateful Dead, Bruce Hornsby joined the band on keyboards after the death of Brent Mydland, playing over 100 shows with the band between 1990 and 1992. His connection with the Grateful Dead continued in subsequent years, culminating in the band’s 50th anniversary and the 2015 Fare Thee Well concerts, where he performed alongside Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann.
