Autograph is an American hard rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1983 by vocalist and guitarist Steve Plunkett, lead guitarist Steve Lynch, bassist Randy Rand, keyboardist Steven Isham, and drummer Keni Richards. Combining melodic hard rock with polished hooks, keyboards, and Lynch’s distinctive lead guitar work, the band emerged during the height of the Southern California hard rock scene. Autograph quickly secured a deal with RCA Records and released its debut album, Sign In Please, in 1984.

Sign In Please gave Autograph its breakthrough with Turn Up the Radio, the song that became the band’s signature and an enduring staple of 1980s rock. The album also included Send Her to Me and showcased the combination of melodic songwriting and guitar-driven hard rock that defined the band’s early sound. Autograph followed with That’s the Stuff in 1985, featuring the title track and Blondes in Black Cars, before releasing Loud and Clear in 1987. Although the later albums did not match the impact of the debut, the band’s first run established a lasting following among fans of 1980s hard rock.

Touring played an important role in Autograph’s career, with the band sharing stages with major rock acts including Mötley Crüe, Heart, Van Halen, and Aerosmith. The original era came to an end by 1989, but Autograph returned decades later when Steve Lynch and Randy Rand reunited with a new lineup and resumed performing. Lynch departed in 2019, while Rand continued with the group until his death in 2022. The reunion years also produced new recordings, adding another chapter to a band still most closely associated with the unmistakable opening guitar riff and chorus of Turn Up the Radio.
